With so many professionals practicing in the field of cosmetic surgery, it is important for you to make an informed decision when considering an elective procedure. He is both dual fellowship trained at Stanford University and triple board certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and Sleep Medicine. Electing to undergo a facial plastic procedure is a highly personal decision and you should take the time to find the right surgeon.
Dr. José Barrera, MD graduated from the USAFA with Distinction with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry. He completed medical school training and a cancer research fellowship at the University of Colorado (CU). Dr. Barrera completed a residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at CU. Dr. Jose Barrera, MD uses an artistic hand with an eye for facial balance and wellness to achieve goals of cosmetic surgery including facial rejuvenation, restoration, and reconstruction. Patients seeking rejuvenation may have experienced descent, deflation, or demarcation lines in the face and neck. Descent of the faces causes a sunken appearance around the eyelids, laugh lines around the mouth, and jowls along the jawline. Facial cosmetic surgery such as blepharoplasty and brow lift, facial fat grafting, and facelift (rhytidectomy) help to improve this condition. Mini-facelifts may be used to accentuate the jaw and neckline. Others are concerned about the deflation that has occurred with athletics or aging. Dr. Barrera is a certified facial injector and has performed several hundred filler treatments including, Sculptra™, Restylane®, Restylane Silk, Perlane Lyft, JUVÉDERM®, Voluma, and Radiesse™ for lip filler and facial volume restoration. Patients are also seen for dermal filler complications and treated with hyaluronidase injections to remove hyaluronic acid fillers.
Again, facial fat grafting may also help to ameliorate this condition. Demarcation lines are wrinkles that are common as we age. Excessive sun exposure and photo aging may also bring them about. Products such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin can be used to treat wrinkles. These products may also be used to bring about facial symmetry in paralyzed faces. With excessive photo aging, a laser skin resurfacing or chemical peel may be used to treat solar elastosis and actinic and premalignant skin. Dr. Jose Barrera, MD is a certified laser cosmetic surgeon and speaks nationally on craniofacial reconstruction and facial scar treatment using fractionated CO2 laser therapy. Lasers such as the carbon dioxide (CO2) fractionated laser, Fraxel, ResurFX Erbium Glass, Alexandrite, Intense Pulse Light (IPL), and Nd:Yag lasers can all be used to treat wrinkles, tighten the eyelids and face, improve skin texture, and treat early sun damage and scars for brown spots, rosacea, and actinic skin damage. We use the most minimally invasive techniques to achieve these goals. Chemical peels including lactic acid peels, Skinceuticals peels, and the SilkPeel Microdermabrasion complement skincare antioxidants and clarifying lotions to treat pigment, melanoma, acne, and wrinkles.
Beyond rejuvenation, restoration of normal breathing and facial symmetry improves the quality of life and wellness of patients seeking help. Functional abnormalities like difficulty breathing or obstruction in the nose or airway from septal deviations, recurrent and chronic sinus infections, and trauma to the face can be corrected. Dr. Jose Barrera, MD is a nationally renowned rhinoplasty surgeon and cosmetic surgeon and is a sought after specialist in revision rhinoplasty and correction of nasal and airway obstruction including nasal valve reconstruction, septoplasty, sinus treatment, and turbinate reconstruction.
There are patients seeking cosmetic surgery for reconstruction of birth disfigurements such as birthmarks, cleft lips, or congenital facial abnormalities. Others patients wanting cosmetic surgery have been involved in motor vehicle accidents or another traumatic event that has caused burns, scars or disfigurement. In addition, 24% of males and 9% of females have obstructive sleep apnea and are not diagnosed. Family members suffer from poor sleep due to loud snoring in the house; but it is the silent sleep apnea patient that suffers the most. With an increased risk for high blood pressure, hypertension, early heart attack, cardiac disease, diabetes, and stroke, the sleep apnea patient is at an increased risk for mortality. Excessive daytime sleepiness and fatigue compound the problem. Dr. Jose Barrera, MD is one of a handful of surgeons in the United States that can offer life changing airway reconstruction via soft tissue and skeletal surgery to alleviate patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. Barrera has added qualification as a board certified sleep medicine specialist and is fellowship trained at Stanford University in Sleep Surgery. Dr. Barrera will use his training as a board certified Otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon and Facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with additional specialty training in maxillofacial and airway abnormalities and his extensive experience to evaluate and treat your condition.
